Notes:

 

John seems to have had some military service prior to the Great War but our investigations continue with respect to this.  What we do know however is that in Nov 1914 at the age of 46 he re-enlisted with Tyneside Irish.  His service lasted all of 29 days as he was found to be suffering with a balance problem and dizziness.  He was consequently discharged.

 

His records tell us that John measured only 5ft 5 inches tall and had grey eyes and brown hair.
