1744 Winifred ASHBY dd> 1744 Note: Winifred’s
will is very informative and it is thanks to her that many of the connections
in this branch are made. She
leaves money to her brother John ‘if he hath need’ and to her
sister Sarah Ashby, and presumably also a spinster. Her nieces and their children also
benefit, but it is interesting that Alice Mitchel nee Gilpin and Winifred Hall
nee Gilpin do considerably better than her other niece Sarah Roberts nee
Gilpin. She remembers her great
niece Mary Hall and nephew Henry Mitchel to the sum of ten pounds a piece
(worth about £1177 today).
